Young Padawan you have much to learn of wars and battles

Ok, ok, I know that the title was a little weird, but it's the best I could come up with on short notice. Anyway, it's been a while since I wrote anything, so I figured I'd give a quick update.

First off, I would like to say that I am extremely ticked off at the moment. My debate professor took off 10% just because I stumbled once in my delivery. I had to make up all of my points on the spot because I was second speaker, so I did stumble ONCE because I was trying to figure out what to say. My partner didn't even take up all the time and she got a 96% and she stumbled and they couldn't even hear her because she talked so quietly. You know, I seriously hate people who count 10% off a grade for the sheer reason that they don't like you because you prove them wrong in everything they say. I can't wait to transfer back home. Culver-Stockton needs quality professors and she isn't one of them. She doesn't take into consideration of what the student's needs are she is completely ignorant about anyone's opinions but her own.

Anyway, it's the week before finals, which also means that it's the week before Thanksgiving break. Yay!! :) I can't wait to head home.

So, while I've been hiding back in my dorm away from my blog, Culver won their first football game in 3 years. Amazing, I know. But, I have to agree with Patrick Wilson (another freshman) That the football program at C-SC should be eliminated. First off, they NEVER win. Why would you keep a losing football program in place when you constantly give out full ride scholarships to the athletes that rarely win and NEVER get to play. Yeah, they BENCH all the freshman players in order to give the 5th year seniors time to play in order to "try" to get into the NFL. HAHA! No players from Culver have EVER made it to the NFL and I doubt that they ever will. Sorry, I know a lot of the football players, but I don't mean this offensively. You need to go to a school that will actually let you guys play. Not go to a school in which you constantly lose, and you never get to play. Let the funding from the football team go to something in which we actually win at or do better things in. Such as the theatre department. The theatre department actually puts on amazing plays and musicals that are enjoyable. We could also put the money to more Pillars scholarships or just more scholarships in general for fine arts or anything else making the financial burden of almost 30K a year easier on many students that have a hard time paying the debt of the college's high tuition because it's a private school.

I'll admit, I live in the nicer freshman dorms, Wood Hall. We have air conditioning, carpets, a kitchen, more washers and dryers, and 3 lounges. But what needs to be realized is that the other freshman dorm, Shannon Hall, does NOT have air conditioning. Why should students that are paying 30K a year, same as the other freshman that live in Wood Hall, have to be put into a dorm in which they don't even have air conditioning or carpet? Think back to August, it was HOT and it was MUGGY sure, students in Wood Hall were nice and cool, but the students in Shannon were forced to resort to small fans or to crowd into their lounge ( the only air conditioned room in the dorm) and try and stop the brutal heat. I think  most people will agree that a school that has such a high tuition should be able to provide their students with decent housing that doesn't cause any sort of discomfort within the students. College should be a home away from home and should be comfortable for ALL students.

Sorry, I had a lot to rant about at the moment. Hopefully my next post will be much more light hearted. I'll be thinking on that...

Peace, love and rainbows.

  1. I must say that I have few problems with your posting mostly with some of the "facts" you cite that are not true. 1) just because a professor takes some points off is it really worthy of calling her the worst at the college it was only 10%. Guess what if you stumble in the courtroom and sound unprepared you WILL lose cases! 2)Does the football team struggle oh YEAH! I agree but to say that it should be eliminated you need to understand that that single team makes up more than 1/8th of the total student population elmination of that team WILL cause a large number of students to head elsewhere and spend their education dollars at other colleges. 3) You talk about them getting "full ride" scholarship, first a full ride is that you don't pay for anything except books. I can tell you that there are ZERO student athletes on ANY team at CSC on a "full ride". 4) Use caution when blasting athletics who make up about 50% of the total student population or professor as you never know who might be reading this. Now I agree that facilities need upgrades all over campus and I'm sure that if you have some great ideas for generating the $$$$ needed to get them done there are folks in Henderson hall that will be happy to listen to you.

I look forward to reading the next light hearted entry!

  2. Woah there. Play nice friends.

I'm sure the 10% dock is not the only reason an intellegent student like Breeann would consider a professor not their favorite?

"It was only 10%"- This grade, this debate, is worth 40% of the entire grade in the class if I am correct, Breeann? 10% makes a huge difference- especially for those students striving for excellence in their academic education.

No one is perfect at public speaking, and stumbling when impromptu speaking (to back up a debate- which is not easy may I add) in front of a 200 level class is not equivalent to a 10% dock in grade, especially since another speaker stumbled and recieved 100% in the debate.

Should students really have to raise the money themselves to live in equal conditions?

Thank you Breeann for doing something different.
